It’s been called the hottest skin care trend in the country, collagen induction therapy and the future of skin care devices, but no matter what it’s called, microneedling has quickly become one of the most sought-after skin care treatments across the country and here at Infinity too. And for good reason! Microneedling is the versatile tool that works to revitalize your skin. Microneedling is the fast, convenient, effective procedure that addresses a host of skin care issues, including stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, tone and texture, acne scarring and pigment issues. The downtime is minimal and patients report that the treatment itself is very tolerable, especially with the numbing cream that is applied prior to the procedure. The beauty of microneedling is that it appeals to all age groups. Infinity Skin Care may see a 20-something patient in the morning for acne scars, and a 50-something patient in the afternoon for anti-aging and to help stimulate their natural collagen production.
Microneedling is appropriate for all skin types. Because it does not use light or heat energy like a laser treatment does, it is especially useful for darker-skinned patients who may experience hyperpigmentation from laser heat or light.
The microneedling device travels over the surface of the skin, causing tiny (invisible to the naked eye) micro-injuries that stimulate collagen and skin cell renewal. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker dermis with an overall improved appearance, and a softer tone and texture.
For those patients who love microneedling but are looking to step up to the next level in microneedling, Infinity also offers advanced microneedling. This procedure amplifies the results and can be used on all skin types to address a variety of concerns. It is especially helpful for deep wrinkles, lip lines, stretch marks and acne scars. Most all areas of the body can be treated, unless your Infinity provider determines otherwise. With advanced microneedling, there is more redness, swelling and flakiness during the health phase. There may be 2-3 days of initial social downtime followed by 2-3 days of flaking.
Whether a patient chooses regular microneedling or advanced, a series of treatments is recommended for optimal results and a pre-treatment appointment is required prior to an actual treatment. It can be used on the face, neck, chest, hands and almost anywhere on the body.
Microneedling may also be combined with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) for enhanced skin rejuvenation. Platelet Rich Plasma is created by drawing a small amount of blood from a patient, just like a typical blood draw for lab testing. The clear yellow plasma containing platelets and proteins is separated from the red blood cells and during this process, the platelets are concentrated. The liquid gold is microneedled or injected into the skin. The natural stem cells contained in the skin are stimulated, which results in an increase in collagen and elastin. PRP offers significant improvement in skin texture, color, hydration, wrinkles, stretch marks and scars.
