What Do Chemical Peels Feel Like?

Why try a chemical peel?

Chemical peels are suggested to patients who want to diminish fine lines and wrinkles, improve epidermal texture and tone and revitalize a dull complexion. There are several types of chemical peels on the market that offer varying degrees of exfoliation (superficial, medium and deep). However, the most common type of chemical peel is comprised of an AHA (alpha-hydroxy acid) such as glycolic acid, which offers safe, consistent and predictable results. After a thorough consultation with a skin care specialist to determine if you’re a good candidate for a chemical peel, your treatment will consist of an application of the glycolic acid to your skin. In the days following treatment, rough, sun damaged skin peels or flakes off, revealing new, regenerated skin in its place.

So how does a chemical peel really feel?

The superficial peels provided at Infinity create a mild stinging sensation for a few minutes while the glycolic acid is on the skin. Post procedure, patients may experience redness, itching, and a slight sunburned feeling. These side effects, combined with the gentle peeling of the outer layer of skin are normal and it means the chemical peel is doing its job! The peeling and flaking itself is not painful. Some patients have very minimal peeling and flaking because the cells are falling off one by one instead of in clumps, but the results are the same regardless. Peeling will subside in about 3-5 days. A series of peels spaced every 2-3 weeks apart will yield the most dramatic results. With the mild peeling and flaking associated with a chemical peel, it is advised that patients schedule their appointments at least seven days prior to a special event such as a class reunion, wedding or family vacation.

Infinity Skin Care recently added the SkinBetter Science AlphaRet Professional Peel System to its chemical peel lineup. The new peels from SkinBetter Science incorporate the proven ingredients of AlphaRet, and are shown to improve the overall skin tone and texture for patients with mild photodamage. In a recent clinical study, 100% of patients agreed that their skin texture was smoother looking and pores were less visible following each chemical peel treatment.

Infinity Skin Care also offers these chemical peels for a variety of skin types:

  • Glycolic Acid Peel
  • Acne Peel with Salicylic Acid

In addition to these, Infinity Skin Care also offers the DermaPlane Peel with CO2 Therapy, a 3-stop process to improve skin texture and radiance, firm skin, diminish fine lines and wrinkles, lighten dark spots and even out skin tone, reduce acne blemishes and revitalize sensitive skin while decongesting pores.
